The Schlossebezirk and Burg Nuln:
The original fortifications at Nuln were made on the
heights on the West side, on an upward thrusting rocky point.
Just south of the Grossebrucke, a winding road climbs the hill
to the Burg, which hangs out over the cliff with
a commanding view. The Burg is the nominal residence of
Countess Emmanuelle von Liebewitz, but in fact is mostly
empty. The Countess lives further down the hill in the much
more comfortable Schlosse Liebewitz. The Burg is used for the
odd ceremonial function, and to house state visitors that the
Countess wishes to mildy snub. In fact, in Nuln, the word
Burggast is used to indicate any unwelcome visitor.
The area around the Burg and Schlosse has become
the highest class residential district in the city by virtue
of its proximity to the court of the Countess. The houses and
buildings are built into the walls of the cliff that slopes down
from the Burg on the heights.
