Most of the fresh produce and wines from the plateau areas stop first here and are picked over by the elite before crossing the Grossebrücke and ending up at the docks in the Unterstadt.
It lies along both sides of the the Westway, which runs through the main gate and then fairly directly to the Grossbrücke. This length of road is usually called the Westway, but sometimes is referred to Hochmarktstrasse, or more often simply Hochmarkt, leaving the listener to determine from context whether the road or the neighborhood is meant.
